We would like to introduce you to the Board of Directors for Turning Point Missions, Inc.  All of us are from the West Michigan area and continue to call it home.  Each of us can be reached via email below.

Jim VanDerLaan | President

Jim is a retired school teacher and now a full-time painter. He has been married to Molly for 30 years and has three children.

Jim has been associated with Turning Point Ministries since 2017. He has worked both part and full time in TPM's home renovation projects until the COVID pause in Spring of 2021. Jim has traveled with teams to Haiti 5 times and loves our Haitian ministry partners there.

Peter Vande Brake - Turning Point Missions

Peter Vande Brake | Board Member

Peter Vande Brake has worked in ministry and private school administration for his entire career. He has a BA from Calvin College, and M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, and a Ph.D. from Calvin Theological Seminary. He is married and has two daughters. He is currently the Director of the Upper School at The Geneva School in Orlando, Florida.

Mark Wybenga - Turning Point Missions

Mark Wybenga | CO-FOUNDER & Chief Operating Officer

Mark Wybenga is a self-employed, licensed residential builder. He founded Turning Point Builders, Inc. in 2007 where he specialized in renovations, new construction and finished carpentry in both the residential and multi-unit housing markets.  

Mark is responsible for the day to day on-site operations of Turning Point Missions, Inc.  He is in charge of all scheduling, coordination of workers and various trades and does much of the carpentry work as well.

Mark is married and has three children.  He loves to camp and boat with his family. He also enjoys running, biking and spending time outdoors.

Tom Doane - Turning Point Missions

Tom Doane | Co-founder & Chief executive Officer

Tom has a BS in Business Administration from Aquinas College, a BS in Engineering from Michigan Tech, and a MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan. After serving in the US Army in the Republic of Panama, Tom worked for several engineering firms designing water & wastewater treatment facilities before joining BDO Seidman’s tax department working in the real estate area.  Tom retired from BDO in 2008.

Tom has been married to Elise for 52 years. They have three grown children and four grandchildren.  Tom and Elise enjoy hiking, biking, and traveling.

Grey Larison - Turning Point Missions

Grey Larison | Board Member

Grey R. Larison, Ph.D., is a retired clinical psychologist and a charter board member of Turning Point Missions. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and his doctoral degree from Michigan State University. Grey started his career serving in the US Army in Germany before returning to Grand Rapids. He has practiced psychotherapy in several outpatient settings in the greater Grand Rapids area and finally retired in 2017 from Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. Grey and Judy have two married sons and three grandchildren. They spend the winter months in Arizona and live in Grand Rapids from spring through the lovely fall season.

Renee Zuidema | Secretary

Renee has a Bachelor in Applied Science and a Global Project Management Certificate, PBC from Davenport University. She is working as a project manager in the Grand Rapids area. In her free time, you can find her biking, hiking, or reading.

Renee traveled to Haiti with a mission team from TPM in January 2020 and joined the TPM board later that year. She attends Oakhill Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Dave VanderVeen | Board Member

Dave believes in order to reach people that no one else is reaching, we have to do things no one else is doing. Dave and his wife Faye started a nonprofit ministry called Manna Media with the intention of using the internet, technology and film to reach the world for Christ. Dave and Faye have been married over 43 years. Occasionally you may find Dave enjoying a round of golf. Dave joined the TPM board in 2020.
